The Friendly Cup – England have a lovely time in Bangor
23rd/24th January 2016 – Bangor, Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland v England).
England, led by talisman Rob Hall who was unbeaten throughout along with Mark Graham, turned an overnight lead of 21-11 into a final score of 46-18 to retain the friendly cup against Northern Ireland in Bangor.
As is usual, the scores alone hide the real stories of close games, playing conditions, tricky tables, travel problems, sickness bugs, etc. but above all the friendly rivalry was paramount. Rob Hall (143,100unf) and Chris Taylor (113,99) topped the breaks list. Northern Irelands team has more youngsters coming through that are ever improving and gaining experience. The hospitality was excellent and Clive Scott and his team of referees (Frank Trainor, Bob Slee, Martin O’Reilly, Joe Graham, Chris Ellis, Ray Dowle) flawless.
