A Second-Class Tournament

A departure that is altogether in the right direction was
made during the latter half of May and the earlier part of
June by Mr. J. P. Mannock, who spiritedly promoted, at his
Bedford Head Hotel Rooms, Tottenham Court Road, a
tournament on the American principle between players who,
whilst not belonging to what is known as the” highest
flight “in professional billiards, exemplified during the progress
of the twenty-one heats much of what is usually
associated with first-class play. The players were: B.

The prizes were presented at the close as follows:—First
prize, £10, E. Hoskins (rec. 80) won all six games; second
prize, A. F. Peall (rec. 50) won five out of six games; proportionate
break prize, B. Elphick, with effort of 193 (highest
in tournament).
