How to Win League Matches
The most successful league players are the hard hitters. During the
years I played in league billiards I was a more or less honourable
member of the hitting fraternity, and I had a period of five years with
only three defeats. If I went back to league play I should start hard
hitting again, and my advice to the young league player is to do likewise.
The hitting game suits all conditions, but when they are particularly
bad the hitter shines brightest. All-round cannons are played with
twice the force necessary, so that if you miss the first time you may be
more fortunate on the return journey. Potting the white, a favourite
shot of the hard bitter, the ball is sent down with all the force possible,
the loud noise ensuing supposedly having the valuable effect of
weakening opponents’ moral.
