The Friendly Cup

The Fiendly Cup was held in Derby last weekend 19th–20th Jan 2013 ,A big thank you to  the Beaconsfield for thier hospitality and warm welcome once again.

The Northern Irish lads braved the snowy chilly weather and came over to challenge for the cup, what they didn’t count on was the formidable English team headed by Steve Crosland, Billy Bousfield started the matches off with his style of play we are all used to several 100+ breaks followed by the inform Darren Kell with more 100+ and 143 unf break,This all left the door open for the practicing duo of Chris Taylor and Rob Hall ,Kenny Campbell from Ireland came to me and said ” I had two shots against Rob and one of them was the break off” Sorry lads the final result was England 50 –14 Northern Ireland.

ABC #2 Cambridge Results Available

The second ABC results are now available on-line, There has been a delay due to the ref’s being rather busy with the World Billiards over at Leeds. I attended the event on Tuesday and saw lots of great action by our members. Rob Hall appeared to be playing well managing a win over Gilcrest and Chris Taylor appeared to be playing well having taken the scalps of several of the top Indian players.

The Second ABC was won by Rob hall who defeated Mathew Sutton narrowly in the final, Rob also took the high Break with a great 349 break.

The plate was won by our very own Jim McCann who defeated Chris Mitchell who took the plate high Break with 58.

UK SENIORS OPEN BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP  ( Over 50’s)

EABA held the UK Seniors Championships at the Beaconsfield Club in Derby at the weekend  with a total of 29 entries  and was played on a round robin format .Both the main competition and the plate competition saw some fine billiards played and the real competitive closely fought out matches. The last eight of the main comp saw David  Sneddon  just beating Tony Clegg in a close match 271-245. Brian Harvey had a great match with Arthur Winn with Arthur just loosing out by 28 points.

The bottom half of the draw had Chris Mitchell and Branston Hoole in another duel , Chis getting the  upper hand, The final of the main was what most people described as the most exciting final for years with Dave Sneddon  having a flying start and getting ahead by  almost 200 points before Steve came back at him  near the end with David on 418 and Steve at the table on 384 with an unfinished break of 30 when the bell went Dave coming out the winner on 418—414.

The Plate semi finals saw three of the Irish guys competing Jim Mc Cann getting through with breaks of 74-54 ,Whilst in the other semi John Mc Intyre seeing off Paddy Donnelly with the last pot white as the bell went to win by 1 point  giving him the push to go on and beat Jim in the final.

A superb weekend was held by all and another smoothly run event by Clive Scott and his merry men in blazers. Seniors.

Midland Counties League 2012

The Midland counties league season starts again and new match reports are being published on the internet for the first time on this site. As the league is played across various counties I have decided to store the match reports under Worcester the home of the secretary John Smith.

This will be updated once a month as matches are played on a Sunday monthly. The format of the league is three one hours matches played off handicaps this makes the travelling worthwhile and produces some nice league breaks. If anyone is interested in putting in a team please contact John Smith whose contact details are listed on the Billiards Map – Worcester.

A full match report for September is also now online as the bottom of the Worcester page. Makes interesting reading a certain EABA member makes a guest appearance for Staffs Universal.

Whitworth Masters

Once again a very successful and well enjoyed weekend of Billiards . The weekend started with the group stages round robin format and produced some lovely Billiards, not all players playing their A game yet still provided some great matches.

Saturday night was a great success with the dance floor showing the Strictly grass routs and Brucie sorry Bob Slee giving a twirl or two, A big thanks goes too all the Whitworth members for putting on another wonderful social evening . Sunday saw the final stages of the Whitworth Masters and once again living up to its reputation with some fine sporting gestures as Steve Crossland and Chris Taylor unable to overcome the social night and allowing Rob and Jim to go on and contest the final, Rob won the very close battle after Jim missed a fairly gettable in off whilst in front and left Rob to retain his title.

We watched Billy Bousfield present the trophies and give Bob Slee a big thanks for organising and running of the Whitworth to a wonderful round of applause.
