The Minor Hall, Leicester Square

The Markers' Tournament

THROUGH the kindness of Messrs. Thurston, who have lent the Minor Hall for the occasion, and have also provided a certain amount of the prize money, an interesting Markers' Tournament is now in progress in Leicester Square. Some excellent play has been witnessed, and already well known performers like Harwood and Button have made three-figure breaks. A capital table has been erected by Messrs. Thurston and Bonzoline balls are being used. Brief results :—

FIRST ROUND

T. Nelson (rec 175) beat E. Garrard (rec 100) by 61 points. The winner made a break of 56.

J. C. Bailey (scratch) beat G. Booth (rec 180) by 115 points. The winner made excellent breaks of 140, 50, 36, and 30.

S. Button (rec 30) beat W. Kemp (rec 150) by 153 points. The winner made fine breaks of 123, 37, and 35 (33 off the red ball).

H. Hewish (rec 200) beat F. J. King (rec 150) by 111 points. The winner made a 34 break and the loser one of 56.

J. Jevens (scratch) beat H. Champkin (rec 75) by 150 points. The winner contributed breaks of 51, 36, 53, and 38 to the loser's highest of 31.

A. Dennis (rec 30) beat A. Newlands (rec 180) by 135 points. The winner's chief breaks were 37, 39, and 34.

F. Harwood (scratch) beat G. Frost (rec 225) by 200 points. Harwood was responsible for capital contributions of 120 (unfinished), 53, 46, 37, and 34.

F. Hammond (rec 60) beat C. Elsey (rec 90) by 162 points. The winner make breaks of 67, 46, and 40 to the loser's highest of 43 (39 off the red ball).

J. Cox (rec 175) beat R. Fantine (rec 200) by 90 points. The winner's chief breaks were 41 and 37 to the loser's highest of 37.

W. H. Sparrow (scratch) w.o., W. Reeves (rec 50) absent.

J. Long (rec 100) beat G. Apperley (rec 80) by 280 points. The winner made breaks of 73, 44, 33, 32, and 30.
