A COMMITTEE MEETING was held at the offices of the Association, 18, Buckingham Street, Strand, W.C., on Friday, January 11. Present:Mr. Sydenham Dixon, President (in the chair), Col. S. E. Atkinson, Messrs. C. E. Johnson, S. A. Mussabini, H. R. Newson, and A. C. Burnett (Secretary).
The minutes of the last meeting were read, confirmed, and signed.
The Secretary read the correspondence with Mr. E. C. Breed respecting the Amateur Championship, and Mr. Breed's resignation of the title was accepted.
Proposed by Col. Atkinson, seconded by Mr. Johnson, and carried unanimously "That the President be empowered to conclude arrangements with the Secretary of the National Sporting Club for the decision of the competition proper for the Amateur Championship in the theatre of that building, such competition to be begun on Wednesday, March 6 next.
A letter was read from Mr. F. W. Perry resigning his post of Hon. Secretary to the Committee of Management of the Irish Amateur Championship, and nominating Mr. Herbert Dudgeon to act in his place.
The following resolution was moved by the Chairman, seconded by Col. Atkinson, and carried unanimously: "That the resignation of Mr. Perry be accepted with very great regret, and that the Committee tender him a most cordial and hearty vote of thanks for all his splendid services in connection with the Irish Amateur Championship, which his exertions were mainly instrumental in making a brilliant success from the outset. They gratefully accept his nomination of a successor."
Application was made by Mr. F. H. Weiss for a permit to play a match with Mr. T. Reece under a code of rules advocated by the latter. This was unanimously granted.
In view of the fact that the Billiard Association no longer pays the expenses of teams visiting London for the semi-finals and final of the Inter-County Amateur Championship, the entry fee of one guinea per team for that competition was abolished.
Lord Westbury's resignation of the office of Vice-President of the Association was accepted with much regret.
The entry fee for the Markers' Handicap to be played at Messrs. Cox and Yeman's Brompton Road Salon was fixed at 10s.
It was decided that, if it could possibly be arranged, a qualifying competition for the Amateur Championship should be played in Edinburgh or Glasgow, and it was hoped that this competition would form the foundation of an Amateur Championship for Scotland.
Four new members were elected to the Association.
The rest of the business was private, and the proceedings closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
