ON the 19th December last we published a paragraph referring to Thurston and Co., Ltd., and we now unreservedly withdraw the statements contained therein. We are convinced that the above-mentioned paragraph contains untrue statements and misrepresentations which reflect on Mr. C. Howard Craggs, Chairman, who was a partner in the firm before it was formed into a Limited Company. The discovery of the defalcations was the result of carrying out the instructions given by Mr. Craggs, which in each case were discovered before the arrival of Mr. Stevens at the Branches. We tender our sincere apologies to Mr. Craggs, and are extremely sorry that the paragraph was ever published.
