Relates to the preparation of the ends of cues for receiving tips, and comprises a holder adapted to engage the cue centrally, and a bit guided by the holder for squaring the end of the cue and boring a preferably stepped axial hole in the end for receiving a special form of tip. The cue is held centrally within a tube by means of two or more arms, preferably springy) arranged in the tube and provided with pins extending through holes in the tube. The outer ends of the pins are inclined, so that the arms are pressed inwards to grip the cue when the two bell-mouthed sleeves are moved longitudinally by.means of a nut which screws on the sleeve and abuts against the sleeve. The sleeves may be operated in other ways.
