The cup was manufactured by J. W. Benson, Old Bond Street. It is a silver vase, surmounted, by a figure of Mercury. On each side stand figures of Victory extending a laurel wreath with one hand, a Maltese cross with the other. The body of the vase is richly embroidered all over with Moresque ornaments. On one side is a bas relief in repousse work of a billiard room, table, players, and accessories, and a shield on the other side bearing a suitable inscription. The whole is enriched by parcel gilding and burnishing. The vase stands on an ebony pedestal, the total height being about 2 feet 6 inches.
