A Hint for the Tyro

Beginners at billiards are often puzzled to know how much of the cue should project beyond the bridge when making a stroke.

Well, there is no fixed distance, but the fact is that the greater the amount of cue allowed to project over the bridge hand the more freedom; swing, and cue-power. But there is a limit which is soon reached, as any excess of cue beyond the bridge results in "wobbling" cue delivery. About twelve inches is the happy, medium as a rule, but the beginner would be well advised to commence with a good deal less, little more than, half would be enough at first. Then, as confidence is gained by practice, the distance can be gradually increased without any loss of steadiness.
