English Juniors (Under-19)

Shutt Outstanding

It is not that the other young men can't play billiards, it is simply that Chris Shutt is an outstanding player. There are some good judges who think he has the potential to be the best of all the players who have emerged from the Teesside up to the present. If Shutt turns out to be better than the likes of Russell, Gilchrist and Co. then he is going to be one heck of a player.

Brunskill played well to reach his second final and had a century break in the semi, but had to be content with one title. Albert reports that Brunskill is the first player to reach both finals and win one of them. He recalls a chap called David Bonney reaching both finals in 1976 but winning neither. Bonney seems to have dropped out of the game.

[David Bonney has pointed out to us (December, 2004) that he was British boys Billiards champion in 1976 and 1977 losing the corresponding Snooker titles in the same years, narrowly losing the 1977 final to Jimmy White. David also recorded the highest breaks in both events that year:—Roger Morgan]
