Jamie Moore (21, Mapperley Community Centre, Nottingham) won the Notts Amateur Billiards Championship some weeks ago by defeating the BQR Editor 500 - 411 in the final. I got a good start and went nearly 2(K) in front. Jamie fought back very well indeed to eventually win by nearly one hundred.
Moore also won the Notts Amateur Snooker Championship by defeating Tim Price (21, Hyson Green S.C.) by 4 frames to 3 at the Stadium Social Club. Nottingham. This was a pretty good win as Price is a jolly good player. When 3-2 down he made a clearance of 118 to level the match but Jamie held on in the last to take the title. This billiards/snooker double is no mean feat. A number of players have won both titles but I think that the only other player to have won them both in the same year was that well-known amateur of the '50s and '60s Dick Revell.
Jamie Moore is well known on the ABC circuit and is one of the country's more promising younger players, all the more praiseworthy as he does not have the background of anything like, for instance, the Teesside Boys League.
