One of the best performances was that of Jamie Moore(Nottingham) in reaching the semi-final at his first attempt, with notable wins over Alan Orton, and, in the preliminaries, Peter Shelley.
Orton made the highest break of the tournament - 153 - and he also had runs of 152 and 103. Other century breaks came from Neil Rewhorn (114, 112) John Smith (118, 113) Peter Shelley (105, 104) and Ken Shirley (126)
An interesting and very enjoyable match was held between a team from the Taunton and District League and the Sandford Orcas League. The teams were of twelve players and each man played two games. The games were supposed to be of one hour but varied because the timekeeper (guess who) kept getting it wrong! The result was a twelve games each draw. Brian Harvey had a century break in each of his games, next best was a 69 from Dick Watts.

The Pateley Bridge annual invitation tournament was held on the 6th of February before an enthusiastic audience. Although the table did not play as well as expected, all the players and spectators had a most enjoyable day. At close of play each player was presented with a framed antique billiards print. Particular thanks must go to Mr. Colin Pattimore and Mr. Ray Gowton, our two referees for the day.

Jim McCann (Darley Dale) has recently set, what is claimed to be a record, in the Derbyshire Individual Billiards Championship, by winning his fifth consecutive title. This goes one better than the four wins by David Rees between 1982 and 1985. In the semi-finals, McCann beat Ken Hobbs of Derby by 341 - 280, whilst Stan Day of Derby beat Malcolm Gregory of Darley Dale by 387 - 302. In the Final McCann beat Day by 464 - 345. Gregory took the prize for the highest beak with a 91.
Five on the trot is certainly a highly creditable performance, but might this not have been bettered years ago by the late Herbert Beetham?
From Phil Welham Devon man wins Eastern Counties Open The latest position in the league was that Huntingdon were leading from Norwich by a single point. The highest break to date was a 155 by Albert Salisbury.
The Holt Open Championship sponsored by Butcher Andrews, Solicitors, was won by Bill Andress. Whoever would have thought that Bill would travel all that way for a game of billiards!
Bill beat Phil Welham 341 - 237 in one semi, whilst Jim Temple just scraped part Foss Wilson 231 - 210 in the other. Andress beat Temple 378 - 286 in the final to add to his collection of open championships.
