The first Scottish Pro-Am was held at the Green Baize Club, Grangemouth, and was an initiative of the Scottish Professional player David Seddon. There were just 6 entrants (Including professional Hugh Nimmo, and Mini-Prix contestant Tom McFarlane) in this first tournament, but the Scots are intending to hold further events, and there could well be entrants from the North of England. An interesting feature of the tournament is that it was handicapped, Seddon being back-marker and conceding 130. The Green Baize Club, with its two fine match tables in a private room was a particularly suitable venue for this first venture, and Dave particularly wishes to thank Club-owners Bob and Marjorie Dick. BQR forecasts that entrants are likely to increase as the word spreads and more tables will be needed.

The latest reports show Peterborough to be leading Huntingdon although the teams had identical playing records. Peterborough were placed top by virtue of having scored some 600 points more in their 15 games (5 matches.) Peterborough Professional Roxton Chapman is at the top of the merit list with an average score per game of 683 (One-and-a-half hours,) a top break of 429, and twenty-one 50+ breaks. Albert Salisbury is in second place with an average of 518, a highest of 165, and thirteen 50+s. Lady professional Karen Corr has an average of 364 with a highest of 68, and 4 other breaks over 50.
The Championship was held at the, "Q Club," King's Lynn, and was won by Denis McGuigan from a strong field which included Roxton Chapman, Fos Wilson, Albert Salisbury, Clive Scott, and Karen Corr -amongst others. Chapman had the day's highest of 170 in an early round and two centuries against Fos Wilson in the quarters, but was edged out by 13 in his semi-final with McGuigan. Denis had an even closer game against Ian Chambers in the final winning by just 8. Chambers himself had come through the semi by only 21 against Albert Salisbury.

The fourth Woodside (Norwich) tournament saw a second win for Colin Extall. Extall scraped through his semi with Phil Welham by a single point and his fifty break in the final was just about the winning margin over Arthur Reeve. The top break of the day was a 114 by Fos Wilson. There was a strong entry from the Eastern Counties and the London Area. The date clashed with the Exeter ABC and though there are many players who would like to be in two places at the same time it is not possible. Players will hope that such clashes might be avoided next year.

The inaugural 30 minute tournament was held in King's Lynn and attracted a fair entry. The winner was P. Crisp who beat A. Durrant by 211 - 117. I can't see too many players travelling very far for a half-hour game. Such an event could be run in conjunction with, say, the Eastern Counties Championship.
The Kidderminster team of John Smith, Trevor Scott, and Michael Painter, became league champions at the last gasp and by a mere one- and-a-half points as a result of the Rugby 'A' team taking 4 points from Stoke in the very last match of the season. Stoke needed 7 points to be champions and 6 to force a play off. In the event their 5 - 4 win meant that Kidderminster took the top spot with Derby second by just half a point from Stoke. The Rugby/Stoke match produced two centuries (Ellis Lloyd and Peter Shelley) and five other breaks over 50. Though Stoke were without their star player, Peter Shelley, for two matches, this had no bearing on the outcome as substitute Ernie Houghton did not lose a game.

The season has been very successful. It is not always easy to arrange fixtures, and the fact that at the time of writing (Mid June) there is only one match left to play, says a great deal for the enthusiasm of all involved.
It is hoped that it will be possible to arrange a one-day tournament sometime in September at which the prizes can be presented and there can be a short meeting to discuss next season. League contact - John Smith - 0905 424221
