It was bully (beef) for Steve Crosland in the Pateley Bridge Invitation Tournament held on the 25th April at the Pateley Bridge Social Club and organised by billiards enthusiast, EABA Vice Chairman John Richmond. The four invited players were EABA Chairman Derek Townend, Thorne Snooker Centre owner Branson Hoole, Wharfedale Schoolmaster and Yorkshire Champion Steve Crosland, and the 1992 English Amateur Champion Martin Goodwill. The format was "Round Robin" and the prize was to be a prime cut of English Sirloin. Goodwill started clear favourite but Crosland was unbeaten to take home the Sunday joint. In fact, all the players were presented with a joint. Let us hope that none of them are vegetarians.

Martin Goodwill with two centuries, highest 137, must have seemed on good form. Crosland had two reasonable wins but had done nothing spectacular. He saved that for the deciding match in which he beat Goodwill out of sight, the ex-champion scoring only 83 points in the hour. It was a good win for the Yorkshireman - Goodwill is a tough opponent.
