The Post Office National Billiards Championship

from Phil Welham

This year's championship was won by the South West Division with the North East in second place. The South and Scotland shared third place. Ten teams participated. This year's championship was of the highest standard for many years and reflected the rise in standards nationally. Unfortunately, the Post Office will not support the event next year due to lack of funds (accommodation and travelling expenses) so, unless players are wiling to fund themselves, this year's event may well have been the last.

Highest Breaks

S. Boden (SW) 118; A.White (NE) 79; P. Welham (E) 76

Thanks Phil. The last time I read anything about the Post Office they were reported to have made profits which looked like telephone numbers. Goodness knows, postage costs enough, and it's a poor tale if they can't find a few bob to support a national billiards tournament. However, billiards players, unlike the participants of many other sports, are usually willing to fund themselves so I expect your championship will go ahead as usual next year.
