This event was held at the Launceston Working Mens Club, Northern Tasmania. The tournament was sponsored by Consolidated Leisure and Sport of Victoria - Mr. Mario Banderia. Junior billiards and snooker in Australia owes much to this company.
The event was won by Rhys Cochrane (15) who scored 5761 points at the rate of 360 per hour with 5 centuries and 10 breaks over 50. (144.68. 109.52.68.106.77.55. 53.79.63. 74.103.61.56.73.90.128.69. 113. 55.) No less a man than Robert Marshall has testified to Cochrane's ability and these figures certainly bear it out.
The runner-up was Brendon Smith (14) from New South Wales whose best break was 94.
12 year old Matthew Bolton (Western Australia) made a big impression by scoring 1258 in only 3 matches with breaks of 42,49,57, and 59.

The 1962 New South Wales Minor Billiards Champion, 78 year old Tom Humphries, recently met the 1991 NSW Minor Billiards Champion, Steve Hall, in a league match and won by 225 -193. It seems that Tom had told his opponent that he would win the game. Both men are highly respected billiards and snooker personalities in that part of the world.
