The Billiards Association and Control Club Ltd

Sale of Assets

Most readers will know that the assets of the B&SCC are to be sold by orders of the liquidators, Messrs De Romes of Sheffield. The articles are described as being the assets of the Billiards Association and Control Club, Ltd. I really have no idea what the difference is between the BACC and the BSCC. No matter, their assets are under the hammer. Well not quite. It seems that the liquidators are looking for offers for the lot as a whole. The latest is that the WPBSA have made an offer of £25,000 for the lot. A further complication seems to be that this is to be reduced by the amount that the WPBSA has paid out in amateur tournament prize money this season. The most valuable of the items were the various championship trophies, 23 in all, the most important being those for the English Amateur Billiards and Snooker competitions. It seems that the copyright of the rules was also for sale but it is not listed in the sales document. There is also a large quantity of books and magazines too numerous to list here. It is difficult to see why the WPBSA should want to keep these and it is possible that they may be sold off as individual items at a later date. We shall have to see. I have spoken to two people who have viewed the collection and both report that the condition of many of the items was not all that good. Readers will be kept informed of any developments that come to our notice.
