Phil Welham of King's Lynn writes to say that The Massingham and District League was formed in 1926 (Maybe earlier) and is thus older than the Sandford Orcas. The point about the Sandford Orcas is that it is Billiards only. The Massingham League consists of teams of four men playing 100 up with result and League being decided on aggregate. As regards Longevity I don't think the Massingham League would rate very highly. The Nottingham and Notts Institutes League in which I have played for many years was formed in 1886. In 1905 The Notts. Institutes Association had 36 Billiards teams in three divisions. 22 Whist teams in two divisions, 4 teams in a draughts league, 4 in a Chess, a rifle shooting league a golf league, and the use of Nottingham's Central Gymnasium. I would imagine that there are older leagues than ours - possibly in Yorkshire. Can anyone claim to be a playing member of a league formed prior to 1886?
