The 1990 World Matchplay Championship
Kenilworth Working Men's Club
The qualifying rounds for the World Matchplay Championship were held during the week 17th - 22nd September in Kenilworth, the last four to play the semifinals and final in Moscow, October 1st-6th. There was then certainly something to play for, a trip to Moscow for a Billiards Tournament and an invitation to take part in a Snooker and a Pyramids competition. That this is taking place is due to the initiative of Mark Wildman and he deserves high praise for his efforts. Just how English Billiards will go down with the Muscovites remains to be seen but it cannot go down any worse than it seems to have done with the Kenilworthites as, despite the efforts of Malcolm Lax &. Co, the events were very poorly attended. The tables looked in very good condition one of them being the same one as used earlier in the year for the Amateur Championship and installed by A. & D Billiards.
