The View from the South West

from Ray Moore

The Wessex Title was won by Brian Harvey who beat Dick Watts in the Final for the third time running. This result was a reversal of the Taunton League K.O. Final in which Dick had a very good break of 97 on a difficult table. In practice Dick has recently had a lifetime's best of just short of 500. His Railway Club team won the Taunton League convincingly whilst Bridgwater's 147 Club did well to get second place. The Handicap K.O. was won by Ray Moore who eliminated Dick Watts and Harvey in the quarter and semi-finals.

[I know Ray as an excellent referee, I don't know him as a player, but anyone who beats Dick Watts and Brian Harvey in Competition, handicapped or not, has done pretty well. (Ed)]

Bill Andress had 23 centuries in competition during the 89/90 season and has now made 100 centuries in competition with a highest of 204. He has won 10 county titles and 8 Exeter open titles.

Well done Bill, he is clearly the man to beat in that part of the country and In case anyone should think that Bill is indulging in blowing his own trumpet, such is not the case - he was asked for the information. There is a lot of interest down in that corner. There is, believe it or not, a league which was formed in 1928 which is Billiards only and has never formed a Snooker section. It is the Sandford Orcas and District Billiards League and it will be featured in the October issue of this Magazine. (Ed)
