These events were promoted by the Boys Billiards League and held in Middlesbrough over two weekends in March.
There were 28 entrants. All matches were of 40 minutes. The youngest player - 11-year-old Previn Shukle made a good impression in the first round. Against Martin Stephenson he made a tie and won in the extra five minutes. Shukle went out in the next round to eventual Semi-finalist, Lee Walker. Ormesby's Lee Lagan made the days highest break of 49, had a fright in the quarters against Simon Pearce, but reached the Final to take the Trophy in fine style with breaks of 30,36, and 45 in beating Ian Grover 280-97.

Teesside Open ChampionshipsThere were 46 entrants with Roxton Chapman (Peterborough) and Julian Hodge (Huddersfield) being amongst the favourites. Neither of them made the final stages Chapman losing to Mike Dunn and Hodge to Phil Mackay. David Causier, who made such a strong impression in the Widnes Mini-Prix, had breaks of 65,56, and 43 in beating Ian Grover but he was then beaten by Sharrif Shauq who made a 52 against him. The 20-year-old Shauq faced Under 19 British Champion Glen Cromack in the Final. Shauq, better known locally as a snooker player, is responsible for the coaching of young players at the Thornaby Club where Cromack is one of his pupils. It was a close match, Shauq, with a good 76 break, just winning by 19 points.
