Bill Werbenuik

All fair-minded people would concede that Canadian Professional Snooker player Bill Werbenuik has had more than his share of problems over the last couple of years. From his position as No.7 in the World Ranking Lists he fell out of the list altogether as a result of his well-publicised need to drink large quantities of Lager to control an hereditary illness which caused him to get the shakes unless controlled by alcohol, and to those cynics who had difficulty in believing the necessity for this let them consider the fact that Bill must be the only recorded case in history of a man who could claim for booze against his tax! But it was more serious than that. A further consequence was that he was reliant on Beta blockers - a proscribed drug. Bill would not, indeed could not, commit himself to giving them up, saying that much as he loved snooker he loved life more.

Well now Bill is back and, B.Q.R.hears, with more than a glimmer of hope that there may be an answer to his condition. He is to visit a Harley Street Specialist at just about the time we go to press. All true sportsmen will wish him well. More to the Billiards point, Bill has been putting in some time at the three-ball game and beginning to knock up some decent breaks, he hopes to make his debut at Billiards this coming season, maybe in Mini-Prix. Bill Werbenuik is now based at the Harrogate Leisure Centre and is available for Snooker and Pool exhibitions, challenge matches, and personal appearances at prices all clubs could afford.
