The Billiard Player : January 1934

Scottish Notes

The competition season is in full swing in Scotland, and the East of Scotland Amateur Championship has just finished. The West of Scotland Championship is also well under way.

The final of the East of Scotland was again contested by those old rivals, James McGhie and Malcolm Smith.

They are the two best amateurs in Scotland and very equally matched.

McGhie won; but it cannot be said that either player showed his best form. The best break of the Championship was 117, by McGhie.

Both these players are very eager to meet again in the Scottish Championship, and a great match should be witnessed, if the draw favours this.

The Snooker Championship resulted in a very popular victory for a young player, George McCall. He proved himself a splendid snooker player, and beat in successive ties Smith and McGhie.

A new billiards feature is the North of Scotland Professional Championship, which is being played at present in Dundee. There are 12 entrants, including the present Scottish champion, Irving Lambert, and some very fine play has been recorded.
