Can Women make 20-Breaks?—Rather!

and Capt. F. D. Bone's sporting offer is won for the Women's Hospital

We had many entries from our lady readers in response to Captain F. D. Bore's challenge that they could not make two hundred twenty breaks by Christmas. This challenge appeared in our November issue, and Captain Bone backed his opinion with the promise of a" fiver "for the Women's Hospital, if the ladies succeeded.

As the score mounted up the position became very interesting, but doubtful, from the ladies' point of view. Then, a few days before Christmas, Miss Margaret Lennan "weighed in" no less than 463 certified breaks of 20 or over made in public play. On a "technical point" these do not all count, only two breaks being officially eligible in one week from each lady player, and Captain Bone might have claimed a victory by a few odd breaks. But in view of Miss Lennan's wonderful performance, he considers himself a loser, and the cheque has been sent to the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital, whose secretary writes:—

To the Editor, BILLIARD PLAYER.

Sir,—Thank you very much indeed for your letter of the 20th instant, in which you enclose a donation of £5 from Captain F. D. Bone. We much appreciate this help. We appreciate too, Captain Bone's sporting offer and congratulate Miss Margaret Lennan on her play.

We thank you also for your good wishes which are heartily reciprocated.— Yours truly, JEAN R. MURRAY, Secretary.
