Billiards all the Year Round in Malta

From Valetta (Malta) we have received the following interesting letter from Mr. P. Farrugia:—

"Having read in your last issue a note stating that you would like to have some idea as to the billiard seasons in different parts of the British Empire, I may say that, generally speaking, there is no established billiard season here, and the game is really played all the year round. Competitions for club championships are usually held during the winter (October to March), whilst inter-club matches take place during the hot summer months. Interesting matches between our so-called ' first-class ' players (and we have only a few players who occasionally make a three-figure break), are played both in winter and in summer.

Thus, billiards in Malta is played all the year round, and in summer, after having had a dip in the sea, people stroll one after the other into the billiard room and enjoy a good game. The English game and pool are immensely popular, and are played in almost every club.

A year or two ago we had a visit from H. W. Stevenson, the ex-champion, who played against our best players and defeated them rather easily. On every occasion that he played the place was packed with billiard enthusiasts attentively admiring the great cue conjurer's shots.
