Stock Exchange Billiards Handicap

The first round of this popular event (now in progress at Simpson's Restaurant) has been completed, and a number of heats have been played in the second round.

The handicap had a most auspicious send-off, as Mr. Percy Wood, who may justly be termed the Stock Exchange"crack,"appeared in the opening heat.

Despite the fact that he owed 300, he gained a comfortable victory over his opponent, Mr.

B. W. Thornton, but the feature was a remarkably fine break of 103 by Mr. Wood. This will take a lot of beating.

A good many of the back markers, including Mr. P. Harwitz (owes 300), the holder of the championship cup, Mr. W. H. L. Goolden (owes 300), Mr. F. E. Yates (owes 110), Mr.

W. D. Waite (owes 130), Mr. R. J. Bullett (owes 120), Mr. O. C. Bristowe (owes 175), also won their heats by fairly small margins, and this is a tribute to the sound handicapping of the committee.

It is hoped to play the final heat and the championship at a West End hall, when the Stock Exchange Billiards Association will arrange for exhibitions and collections in aid of the fund, organized by my old and esteemed colleague, Mr. Harry Young, who last year raised over £40,000, for the blinded heroes in St. Dunstan's.
