AN exhibition match took place this afternoon to inaugurate the opening of W. Cook's new billiard-rooms in Regent-street, for so many years known to London players as Smith's in the Quadrant. The old rooms have been elaborately fitted up to match the splendid table by Messrs. Burroughes and Watts, of ebony and gold. The whole of the fittings of the room are black and gold, and the new set of cues, most of which are spliced with ebony handles, look quite in keeping with the rest of the room. Play commenced at twenty-six minutes past three o'clock, Cook conceding 125 points in 500, his opponent being S. W. Stanley. Cook made several good breaks-viz., 81, 80, 133, &c, and won the game by 93 points, the time occupied being one hour eleven minutes. This game was followed by the best of seven games of pyramids, Stanley receiving one ball. Stanley, who played very well, just managed to win the odd game.
