To the Editor of the BILLIARD NEWS:
SIR,-An Australian correspondent of mine, writing last November, states that he thinks the billiard metal balls would stand more wear than the ordinary ivory balls for such a hot climate as 102° in the shade. He says that one of the ivory balls has become perceptibly oval, and has lengthened with the grain. He then uses sand-paper to make such balls playable. Can you, oblige me by informing me of a remedy?-Yours respectfully, CUEIST.
[The great objection to metal balls is that when solid they are too heavy, and when hollow they are too noisy. In India ivory balls are kept in good order by being always kept in bran when not in use.-ED.]
