BILLIARD ENTERTAINMENT AT GLASGOW

BY way of inaugurating a large and handsomely fitted-up billiard room, at Burnbank-terrace, Great Western-road, an interesting billiard match was played on Thursday, the 10th instant, in the room, the contestants being Mr. William M. Green, the champion of Scotland, and Mr. James Meany, the ex-champion. The game was a thousand up, and the play was excellent on both sides, although Mr. Green was by no means in his usual brilliant form, as may well be imagined from the circumstance that his highest break (the break of the evening) was 61, and his greatest number of spots 15. His play, however, was not wanting in that dash and beauty of finish for which he is so celebrated, his score being made up with numerous cannons, in which he displayed all his well-known skill. Mr. Meany has seldom, we believe, played in better style, although very few of his breaks were above 30, and he never touched the spot, his exceedingly successful hazard-playing being deserving of particular mention. When the game finished the scores were as follows- Green 1,000, Meany 896, the former thus winning by 104 points. Mr. Green took the lead shortly after the commencement of the match, and succeeded in retaining it by about 100 points all through. Pyramids were afterwards engaged in, Mr. Green again coming off the victor with the top number of seven games. The spectators, who numbered upwards of 150, frequently expressed their appreciation of the fine play which they witnessed.
