THE second round of this handicap was resumed at the Jolly Tanners' Assembly Rooms, Alice-street, Bermondsey, on Monday evening, January 24, and continued throughout the week, the play being witnessed by a large attendance on each night. Mr. Bayly showed some excellent form by putting together a 35, 43, and 67; Wilson making the next best contributions-33, 36, and 47-while Longman in his heat with Wilson ran out a winner with a 35. Wallace and Burrage, who were matched to play 1,000 up on Tuesday last for £25 a-side, did not exhibit their usual form, while Charlie Fisher was in reserve for a bigger event. Heats 200 up. Archer, who was favourite for the handicap at the commencement, eventually won the cup by beating Bayly in the best two games out of three.

This was the best two games out of three between Bayly (scratch) and Archer (received 90 start), and the first-named was most fancied, 5 to 4 being laid in his favour. The first game was won by Archer, who got into the second hundred before Bayly could add anything of note to his score, and landed a winner by 38 points. The second game turned out a very one-sided affair, as Bayly, with the aid of several well-played breaks, caught his adversary at 115, and pulled through successful by 48 points. Being now one game each this was the actual final. Archer went clean away in the early part of the game, and, never allowing his adversary a chance, won by 40 points, thus becoming the possessor of the silver cup.
