A MATCH of 1,000 up between the above two well-known players took place at the Shakespeare Tavern, Cambridge Road, Kilburn, on Tuesday last. The play of neither man was remarkably brilliant, nor indeed was light in which they played, which, owing probably to some mismanagement of the gas company, was unfortunately extremely bad.
Consequently, as no one present was ingenious enough to suggest that the simple outlay of "a quart" would probably be sufficient to borrow a bull's-eye lantern, which might be turned on to the object ball every stroke, the play was unusually slow.
Alfred Hughes finally won the game by 240 points. Hughes's best break was one of: 84 and Collins's 71. The latter player however, did not show his true form, which was better exhibited in his match on Thursday last, at Purcell's, with Hunt.
