Smith, of Darlington, is said to have a repetition method by means of which he can score a hundred by means of a gentle cannon on to the white one-third across the table above a middle pocket from the red a few inches out of baulk, followed by a gentle run-through the red into the opposite middle pocket which brings the red back to its former position near the D.
There is another repetition (or circular) break, which is attributed to William Mitchell, who is, furthermore, reported to have said that a player can go on scoring through its agency until he sinks to the floor exhausted. Here is the sequence which consists of five strokes only:
1.White, in half-ball position near right-hand pocket is played behind the billiard spot.
2.Red in easy position over left-hand middle pocket is put down and cue ball run up to easy cannon position.
3.Cannon gently from red full on to white.
4.Put down red and remain on shoulder of top pocket.
5.Play cross loser and return red to middle pocket.
The sequence is then repeated, with the exception that the white is left above the spot for further cannon and winner movement.
