B.C.C. Open Amateur Championship

The first open championship promoted by the Billiards Control Club was commenced on March 9 at the club premises.

Windmill House, Shaftesbury Avenue, W.C. The heats were 1,000 points up, and two games ran concurrently until the final heat was reached.

• R. Hill-New beat Sir John Dimsdale by 424 points. The winner scored breaks of 60 (all off the red), 52, 51, 44, 43 (twice), and 34, to the loser's best of 29, 26, and 22 (twice).
• W. Herbert Fowler beat G. F. Brown by 629 points. Breaks: 66, 56, 53, 44, 41, 39, 38, 36, 34, and 30 by the winner, to the loser's best of 30, 26 (twice), 23, and 20.
• W. J. Gask beat the Rev. R. du Bryans by 467 points. Breaks: 83, 60, and 52 by the winner, to the loser's best of 29, 26, 23, and 22.
• Colin Scott beat Guy Chetwynd by 4 points. Breaks: 55, 33, 32 (twice), and 31 (twice) to the loser's best of 50, 45, 36, and 30 (twice).
• Major Fleming beat Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by 661 points. Breaks: 82, 65, 56, 46, and 43 by the winner, to the loser's best of 20.
• G. M: Roberts beat A. Crosland by 127 points. Breaks: 30 and 43 by the winner, to the loser ' s best of 48, 35, 32, and Col. Ommanney had a bye in the absence of S. L. Mann.
• Major Fleming beat Sidney H. Fry by 303 p o i n t s. Breaks: 110, 90, 80, 81, 72, 59, 54, 47, 44, 35, 50, and 28 by the winner, and 162, 49, 46, 43, 36, 35, and 33 by the loser.
• A. Hatchard beat A. Andrew by 673 points. Breaks: 111, 59, 58, 44, and 32 by the winner.
• Frank Fallon beat J. C. Rivett-Carnac by 17 points. Breaks: 34, 29, and 26 by the winner, to the loser's best of 36 (twice), 32, 28, and 27.
• R. Hill-New beat W. Herbert Fowler, who retired after being led at 877 to 734. The chief breaks were: 53, 48, 47, 40, and 33 (twice) by the winner, to the loser's best of 41, 34, and 33.
• Col. G. L. Ommanney beat Colin Scott by 183 points. The chief breaks were: 39, 37, 31, and 29 by the winner, to the loser's best of 49, 45, and 44. Scores: Col. Ommanney, 1,000; Colin Scott, 817.
• Major Fleming beat C. H. Mortimer by 337 points. The chief breaks were: 83, 76, 66, 64, 51, 55, 46, and 40 by the winner, to the loser's best of 63, 46, 44, 40, and 38. Scores: Major Fleming, 1,000; C. H. Mortimer, 663.
• A. Hatchard beat F. Fallon by 387 points. The chief breaks were: 54 (twice), 51, 42, and 36 (thrice) by the winner, to the loser's best of 36 and 31. Scores: A. Hatchard, 1,000; F. Fallon, 613.

• Major Fleming beat A. Hatchard by 11 points. A very well-contested game, the winner scoring chief breaks of 116, 82, 81, 55, 54, 52, 50, 44, 43, and 42, to the loser's best of 84, 64, 63, 61, 54, 50, and 46. Scores: Major Fleming, 1,000; A. Hatchard, 889.
• R. Hill-New beat Col. G. L. Ommanney by 260 points, taking the lead in the very early stages of a rather one-sided game. New led by 96 at the halfway stage; drawing further and further ahead, he won very easily. The chief breaks were: 76, 43, 42, 37, and 36 by the winner, to the loser's best of 32 and 31.

• Major Fleming beat R. Hill-New in 2,000 up by 808 points.
