Navy and Army Championship

The first round of the Navy and Army Championship at Leicester Square has proved very successful. That the standard of play has improved was shown by the fact that over sixty breaks of 40 and over were recorded. The highest break made in this round was one of 70 by Sergt. F. R. Betts, of the 2nd Batt. Royal Dublin Fusiliers, at Gravesend, but in spite of it he lost the game by 69 points to Sergt. G. Sexton, of the same regiment, who finished with a break of 53. The following are the highest breaks recorded from each Command:—Ireland: 50 by Cpl. A. E. Staker, 61st Batt. R.F.A.. Kildare; Scotland: 57 by Bdr. H. Lesson, 69th Batt. R.F.A.. Edinburgh; Western: 58 by Col.- Sergt. G. M. Scoffield, The Barracks, Wrexham; Aldershot: 60 by Lce.-Sergt. W. Brain, 1st Batt. South Wales Borderers, Bordon; London: 68 by R.Q.M.-Sergt. J.
