The most profitable thing to acquire in billiard playing is the proper cue swing. Never forget this.
The worst fault in cueing is the poke. It is better to give up playing altogether than to cling to this vice.
Don't be content with getting the cross loser every time. Get it with such a contact that a middle pocket losing hazard or a cannon position can be loft at will.
Devote half-an-hour occasionally to practising strength alone at different contacts and with the distances travelled by both balls carefully noted.
Instead of lashing out at all long-distance forcers try the effect of slightly more than normal strength and work up from that.
A stroke requiring extreme accuracy is the straight red pot into the centre pocket with the cue ball on the nearest baulk spot. It cannot be too much practised.
Remember that strokes leaving excellent position are often easier to play than others leaving none.
As a rule five and six-shots are to be avoided. They should never be played for unless they leave another easy stroke on.
