Complimentary Luncheon to Mr. F. A. Alcock

At the Cafe Royal, Regent Street, the members of the Billiards Control Club entertained Mr. F. A. Alcock, of billiards supply fame in Australia and New Zealand, at a complimentary luncheon, under the chairmanship of Sir John Dimsdale, Bart., on July 16.

In responding to the toast of his health Mr. Alcock expressed his pleasure at the warmth of his welcome and at the immense popularity the game had attained in England, and which, in part at least, he attributed to the manner in which such firms as Messrs. Burroughes and Watts and Messrs. Thurston catered for the pastime. He, however, was of opinion that the game would not reach its zenith until ladies participated in it more actively.

Later, at the Billiards Control Club headquarters, Stevenson and Reece engaged in a friendly bout of 250 up. By way of novelty both players used the same cue, and two of the Directors of Messrs. Burroughes and Watts, Ltd., and Messrs. Thurston and Co., Ltd., officiated as "spot boy" and referee respectively. Reece won the game, and afterwards Sir John Dimsdale (rec. 150 in 250) defeated Cecil Harverson.
