There was a very large number present at a special meeting of the Executive Council of the Billiards Control Club to meet the Manufacturers' Advisory Committee and the Professional Advisory Committee to the B.C.C. at the club headquarters in Great Windmill House, Piccadilly Circus, on April 3, for the purpose of discussing the advisability of adopting the suggestion from the Professional Advisory Committee with regard to the limitation of red ball play.
Letters of regret were read from Lord Lonsdale, Duke of Rutland, Viscount Deerhurst, and Messrs. Russell, Walker, R. H. Rimington-Wilson, F. C. Coxhead, and W. Bessemer- Wright, apologising for their inability to be present on account of being absent from town.
There was a majority in favour of restricting any series of consecutive shots at billiards, but the further consideration of the subject was referred to the General Council.
In the final of the Inter-Club Volunteer Snooker Pool Championship for the challenge cup given by the Billiards Control Club, the Royal Automobile Club defeated the Junior Constitutional Club at the B.C.C. headquarters by 387 points. For the winners H. Crosland beat J. H. Kino by 354 points, scoring 882 against 528. The winner's best breaks, were 31, 34, 59, 44, 28, 59, and 23 unfinished, while Kino made runs of 21, 26, 19, and 34. In the second game Burnett (Royal Automobile Club) beat Robinson (Junior Constitutional Club) after a very close game by 33 points.
The final scores were: Royal Automobile Club, 1,336; Junior Constitutional Club, 949.
In the final of the inter-hospital billiard tournament at the Billiards Control Club's headquarters, St. Mary's Hospital defeated Middlesex Hospital, the scores being St Mary's, 1,032; Middlesex, 801. Each team had three representatives, and the individual games resulted as follow Mr. Nelson (St. Mary's), 400, beat Mr. Laurence (Middlesex), 327; Mr. Harrison (St. Mary's), 400, beat Mr. Faulkner (Middlesex), 294. In the third game Mr. Iredale (St. Mary's) had scored 232 points as against Mr. Kelly (Middlesex), 180, when the game was abandoned, as St. Mary's had made their position secure.
The Stock Exchange Billiard Association championship was won by P. Harwitz, who defeated V. L. Harrington by 750 to 658. Harwitz ran out with an unfinished break of 69.
In his match against Harverson at Soho Square on April 24, Newman raised an incomplete break of the preceding evening to 498, which now stands as his personal record. That he should have stopped only two short of the 500 must have been rather galling to him.
