A Second-Class Tournament

A departure that is altogether in the right direction was made during the latter half of May and the earlier part of June by Mr. J. P. Mannock, who spiritedly promoted, at his Bedford Head Hotel Rooms, Tottenham Court Road, a tournament on the American principle between players who, whilst not belonging to what is known as the" highest flight "in professional billiards, exemplified during the progress of the twenty-one heats much of what is usually associated with first-class play. The players were: B. Elphick (rec 25), W. H. Sparrow (rec. 50), A. Peall (rec. 50), E. Hoskins (rec. 80), A. Williamson (rec. 110), W. Holly well (rec. 110), and W. Inman (rec. 150).
