The Point of Contact

To the Editor.

Referring to your editorial footnote to my letter which appeared in your last issue, I am aware that Stevenson in his "Top of the Table Game" says that "the contact occurs half-way nearer the middle of the object ball than the cue points to"—nevertheless the statement is absolutely inaccurate, as any schoolboy with a pair of compasses, a ruler, and a pencil, can easily show.

I enclose a diagram to prove the truth of what I say, although it is not necessary that the diagram should be published.

[We print this letter with pleasure, but our correspondent is dealing with a fourth circumference, whereas aim is taken, between edge and centre, at a half diameter, and the point of contact, under these circumstances, is half-way between the point of aim and the centre of the ball ]
