The match between Reece and Frank Smith for the snooker championship of Australia, referred to in one of our Australian letters on page 8, resulted in a capital win for the Englishman.
Reece not only won by 271 points and 14 games to 7, out of the 21 games, and an aggregate of 2,087 points, but in other essentials of snooker proved his generalship. Naturally he had the greater number of reds172 to 143but was not keen on the low-value yellow, his tally being 11 to 22.
In green, brown, blue, pink, and black he had majorities; while in lost points he only conceded 57 to Smith's 89.
Smith had the highest break, with 35 in the thirteenth game, followed with three 16's; while Reece put in runs of 32, 30, 27, and a couple of 24's. The average time of the games was 23 min. 51 sec, the longest bout being 30 minutes, and the shortest the last game, which took only 14 minutes to score the greatest number of points in one game, 8141.
