As already stated the Scottish champion (whose portrait appears in this issue in The Billiard Monthly Portrait Gallery), has been invited to take part in Messrs. Burroughes and Watts' Tournament in London. There will be eight competitors, the new-comers being Aiken, Mack, and possibly a younger player. The tournament will be on the usual American principle, and it ensures Aiken a seven weeks' engagement. It is proposed in the tournament to devise a new scheme whereby spectators will be given two hours' play, afternoon and evening. The reason for the change is that the short sessions usually play into the hands of the scratch man, while the spectators are often disappointed in the brevity of the session. Aiken begins his season in London with a fortnight's match with Diggle, starting on September 4.
