A start was made on March 6 at the Billiards Control Club, Great Windmill Street, W., with the annual billiard championship of the Stock Exchange. Mr. C. Morris met Mr. W. L. Goolden, who won easily by 274 points, the final scores being: Mr. Goolden, 500; Mr. Morris, 226.
The Beaufort Club Committee Cup Handicap was concluded on February 21. At the outset there were 128 players. In the final, Mr. C. Turner (143) beat Mr. J, Dean (125) by one point. Turner's only double-figure innings was 13, and Dean's 11. Final scores:Mr. C. Turner (143), 200; Mr. J. Dean (125), 199.
The annual Benevolent Fund Handicap took place at the Albert Club on March 9. There were 32 acceptances at one guinea each. Final scores:Mr. E. A. Moore (145), 200; Mr. W. Bruce (132), 159. (Highest break, Moore 13).
Mr. Moore nominated the Miller Hospital, Greenwich, to receive the 20gs., and Mr. Bruce the Order of the Good Shepherd, Ashford, Middlesex, the balance. In the committee cup handicap of the Club, on February 17, Mr. W. H. Warde won by 8 points, his breaks being 13, 15, 12, 14, and 19 (unfinished). His opponent's best were 11 and 13. Final scores:W. H. Warde, 200; A. L. Garrett, 192.
The Stock Exchange Clerks Flying Handicap concluded at the Palmerston Restaurant, Old Broad Street, on March 3. The heats were of 50 up. Final: P. Wood beat S. Harwitz by 20. Wood made breaks of 16 and 15, while Harwitz's best were 12 and 10. The winner (owing 200) had previously won the Stock Exchange Clerks' Handicap with 250 against D. H. Lewis (receiving 20), 204.
In the Press Handicap the concluding stages were reached at Thurston's Minor Hall, Leicester Square, on, February 24, when G. I. Groves (100) and J. E. Fyfield (75) met in the final, and Groves won by 24 points. The winner made 23, 15, 12, and 11 (twice), and the loser 21, 16, 14, 11, and 10.
Pte. J. Thomes (Leicester Regt.) put up a new break record for the Navy and Army billiards championship, promoted by Messrs. Thurston and Co., when in his game, in the third round on March 9 he ran out with 138 (unfinished).
At the Urmston Conservative Club on February 20, H. A. O. Lonsdale, the ex-amateur champion, and H. W. Stevenson, the professional champion, played a match of 1,000 up, the amateur receiving 400 start. Lonsdale played in great form. When Lonsdale was 957 Stevenson was only ten behind, but the amateur took the table and ran out to game, the result being:H. A. O. Lonsdale, 1,000; H. W. Stevenson, 947.
The final for the Liverpool and District Amateur Championship was played at Orme's Rooms on February 22. The players were I. Roberts (Liverpool) and T. Owen (Birkenhead), and the last-named gave a fine display at the opening session, his chief breaks being 125, 62, 43, 27, 23, and 22 (twice), whilst Roberts put on 58, 50, 39, 22, 21, and 20. Interval scores:Owen,. 504; Roberts, 321. Roberts played a plucky game at night, putting on chief breaks of 25, 37, 43, 24, 30, 25, 20, 22, 58, and 26, as against 22, 34, 36, 21, 23, 25, 20, 21, and 30 by Owen. The last named won by 113, the final scores being:T. Owen, 1,000; Roberts, 887. Owen also won the break prize with 125.
In connection with the Liverpool Amateur Championship, which ended as stated in the preceding paragraph, a game was played at Messrs. Orme and Son's Rooms, Liverpool, between H. A. O. Lonsdale, the amateur champion, and Owen. The game was 600 up, Owen receiving 100.

The semi-final in the Oxford University Cue between C. M. Burrell (University) and C. R. Bury (Trinity) was played at Eyles's University saloons on March 8. Bury started with 19 and 15, and led by 70 points at 200. Burrell then compiled 35, and with four breaks of 18 apiece he won by 21 points. Scores:Burrell 500, Bury 479.
The final in the (800 up instead of 400 in the previous games) Birmingham L.V. Tournament, at the Falstaff Hotel, was played on March 9, and the starts were doubled, E. Pearce receiving 550 and C. O. Brettell 160. Result: Brettell, 800; Pearce, 792. Highest break, Brettell 26.
The final tie in the University Union Championship was played on March 2 in the Union, when H. P. Mergetts beat J. C. Mackenzie by 237 in a game of 750 points. His highest breaks were two of 40. Neither R. Blair, the ex- Scottish champion and last year's winner, nor A. Croneen, also a previous winner, took part in the competition.
On February 27 in the sergeants' mess of the 1st Hampshire Regiment, the Billiard Champion Shield, played for among the sergeants' messes of Wellington Lines was presented to the winners. The position of the teams at the conclusion of the tournament was as follows:

The Army Service Corps Sergeants' Mess annual billiard handicap was brought to a close on February 20, the finalists being 1st Class Staff-Sergeant-Major Fuller and Company- Sergeant-Major Greggains, the former winning by 70 points.
A match which aroused much interest was played at the Sergeants' Mess, Citadel, before a large attendance, between the Sergeants' Mess, R.M.L.I., and the R.G.A. Sergeants' Mess.
