A Mountain of Billiard Balls

Photo of Mountain of Billiard Balls (25k)

The above photograph exhibits 20,000 billiard balls of the value of £16,000, or the largest stock held by any one firm in the world. The average number cut from the tusks of an elephant is ten, (five from each tusk), and the stock as shown represents the produce of the enormous number of 2,000 elephants. Messrs. Burroughes & Watts' average sale of billiard balls is 950 per month, which is equivalent to the produce of 95 elephants, or the annual total of 1,140 elephants.
