Ormesby Institute took the season's first trophy by beating Norton Workingmen's hi the President's Cup final. The 30 minute games were played on an aggregate score basis, with six players a side.
Ormesby went into a 242-126 lead after wins of 145-62 and 97- 64 by Robin Wilson and Michael Price. Norton responded with 120-52 and 136-119 wins by Martin Shutt and Anthony Bishop, to reduce the deficit to 31 points. Peter Arkless gave Ormesby further advantage at 112-67 before Phillip Wilson ensured their victory by a 136-86 win.
English Amateur Champion Paul Bennett added the "England Cup" to his collection, when his team from Cowpen SC defeated New Marske in the final of the Cleveland League team billiards handicap. Played at Carlin How WMC, Paul overcame a crippling handicap to defeat his opponent in the deciding game. With the help of a 132 break, Paul managed to score a total of 440 points while his opponent was collecting just 77.
