Ralph Macklin was honoured by the Middlesbrough Borough Council by being awarded their inaugural Services to Sport Award. The award is recognition for a lifetime activity in the game of billiards and snooker which began in 1946.

The 81 year old, whose activities were featured in Billiard Player edition No. 4, will always be remembered for his founding of the Teesside Boys Billiards League—of which he is still President.

Albert Hanson, the Secretary of the Boy's Billiards League, and Secretary of the EABA, was also a contender for the award. Ralph is pictured with the annual trophy and his personal salver.
