THE PASSING OF ELLIS LLOYD: 1931 - 1997

The sudden death on Christmas Day of this stalwart of Billiards and Snooker in the Midlands has created a void almost impossible to fill.

His was the central figure around which for many years Rugby Snooker built many championship winning teams, whilst his individual exploits are legion and well documented.

He was, at the time of his death a member of the ABC Circuit, in various teams in Coventry, Leamington and Rugby Leagues, but perhaps best known for successes as Coventry Snooker Champion (four times), Rugby Snooker Champion (thirteen times), CIU Champion, Coventry Billiards Champion, etc;—the list is endless.

But it is for other reasons that Ellis will be most sorely missed.

He brought with him from Wales a love of all that is best in the game, sportsmanship, comradeship, and a fierce loyalty to his fellow team-mates.

Arrogance and conceit were given short-shrift in his company at the Oakfield Club in Rugby where he played his last games.

Our sympathies now go to Anne, his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren.

Anne has bowed to the needs of hosts of friends unable to attend the funeral at Llanbedr by consenting to a memorial service which will take place at the United Reform Church, Hillmorton Road, Rugby on 22nd February at 3 pm.

The obituary to Ellis Lloyd is contributed by Colin Dalton of Rugby, a long time friend and team-mate.
