Phil Welham

Cambridge

"This seasons 'E.C.B.L.' once again has proved a great success with the league's new two division format proving popular. Cambridge took the 1st division from Mid-Norfolk, with Albert Salisbury, Philip Welham and Fos Wilson proving to once again the players to beat.

In the 2nd division a real dogfight for the championship and promotion developed between Newmarket, Alby A, Norwich B and Raunds, with the Suffolk team finally clinching a well deserved championship from Alby A as runners-up. Ivan Chambers proved very strong clinching the division's highest break -124 and highest score of 616 awards. However this division's purpose as a feeder and development league has proved justified with such very promising young players as Dean Bavister, Paul Hilsden and David Nichols improving rapidly.

Next season Lincoln will enter two teams and the league would be delighted to see entries from Ipswich, Colchester, Bury St. Edmunds, Spalding and anyone in the Eastern Counties."
