Prior to the Stoke ABC in February, 94 players had taken part in the four events at Huntingdon, Kings Lynn, Nuneaton and Newmarket. Five juniors are included within these numbers, only one of them, John Hartley, is from Teesside. It's nice to see Fraser Adams, Dean Bavister, Jimmy Chambers and Matthew Sutton, competing on the national scene.
Fifteen of the competitors have scored ranking points in every event and a further 16 players have scored in three of the four events. Average attendance has been 51, with Kings Lynn (61) topping the list.
All venues have seen a different winner. Six players have featured in the finals and twelve different players have featured in the semi-finals.
Twenty-six century breaks have been made, including one in the Plate event, the highest being 189 by Martin Goodwill.
Dean Bavister is the leading Junior entrant having scored in each event, and has 30 ranking points.
Fraser Adams has 20 points from his three scoring opportunities.
Branson Hoole and Jamie Moore are in the top ten ranked players, with 40 points. ABC organiser Derek Townend has found time to compete and has compiled 42½ points to claim 8th place. Philip Welham, Steve Crosland and Terry Colby have 45 points. Chester's Paul Dunning is 4th in the ranking list with 50 points, just topped by Somerset veteran Dick Watts with 52½ points.
Middlesbrough's Darren Kell has 70 points, having been a winner at Kings Lynn, but Paul Bennett tops the list with 100 points, having won at Nuneaton, been runner-up twice, and semi-finalist in the other event.
Derick Townend hopes to have a further event, potentially at Bradford, before the season ends. We are indebted to Derek and Peggy for their efforts in staging the events.
