Peter Shelley had some compensation in what, for him, has been a disappointing season by securing the Merseyside Open Billiards Championship at "Scotties" Club, Derby Lane, Liverpool, on Sunday 23rd February. Shelley defeated John Sweeney 400-267 in the final and also made the highest break of the competition with 117 in the semifinal against Phil Whiteside. The only other century had been made by Whiteside in the opening round (113). John Sweeney had reached the final by defeating Eddie Fielding and Lenny Agnew in the Quarter and semi-final rounds respectively.
The 2003 North West Billiards Championship will be held at the same location on Sunday 1st June commencing at 12.00. Entry is £5 and can be made through Pam Welsby on 0151-489-3711.
